1. Creating Half-Field Drop Back Passing Concepts

View Part 1 on CoachTube

The ability to give “packaged sides” is a critical component in supplementing a progression-read passing game.  Here, Coach Gonzalez covers philosophy, protections, and both whiteboard and video examination that will allow your team to successfully create half-field pass patterns for your passing attack

2. Expanding the Vertical Package

View Part 2 on CoachTube

In the second passing game course by the author of the new book “Read and Shoot: Coaching a Multiple Read Passing Game in the Spread Offense,” Coach Gonzalez discusses the evolving challenge that offensive coaches are confronted with in manufacturing explosive pass plays while still remaining high-percentage in efficiency.  The “4 Vertical” pass pattern is not what it used to be, as defenses are simply not going to line up an play vanilla zone coverages against spread formations; here, exciting alternatives are given that will help give the edge back to the offense.

3. Smashing Defenses with the Corner Structure – Section 1

View Part 3 on CoachTube

The corner toute is something we consider the best of all routes vs. man coverage.  Here, we show specific measures that allow this pass to be high-percentage as well as explosive.

4. Smashing Defenses with the Corner Structure: Section 2 – Advanced Combinations

View Part 4 on CoachTube

Picking up where Section 1 leaves off, Coach Gonzalez adds 3 advanced combinations that relate to the Corner Structure

5. Protecting the Passer: A Multi-Layered Approach, Section 1

View Part 5 on CoachTube

Too often, protection is seen as the responsibility of the offensive line, or of the line and quarterback.  Here, it is revealed that protecting the passer is not only a shared responsibility of all position groups, but it is a key focus of the coaching staff as well.  Every facet of the offensive plan, from protection principles to route design to formationing, should have the idea of protection as a key consideration.   In Section 1 of this series, we will examine protection schemes, protection adjustment calls, formationing, constructing pass patterns, and auxiliary patterns — all from the standpoint of protecting the passer.

6. Protecting the Passer: A Multi-Layered Approach – Section 2

View Part 6 on CoachTube

This course continues where Course 5 left off – going further in depth in multiple aspects related to protection of the quarterback.  Chapters include Tempo/ Schematic Adjustments, Half Field Components (to speed the QB’s read), Installtion/ Practice/ RPOs, and Game Planning.

7. Principles of the Read and Shoot Offense

View Part 7 on CoachTube

This course is a combination of exerpts from the 6 courses Dan has put out on CoachTube.  Striving to keep coaches at the forefront of offensive teaching, these pieces cover the following:

  • Why the thinking on traditional “4 Verticals” needs to be adjusted
  • An example of “Boundary Verts”
  • An explosive compliment to the “Smash” pattern
  • How your formations can affect game planning pass protections.

9. Dictating Matchups with the Empty Passing Game

View Part 9 on CoachTube

As defenses become more wel-versed in adressing the wave of spread offenses, one key piece of the puzzle lies in the ability of the offense to deploy an EMPTY passing attack. Here, Coach Gonzalez takes a deep dive into the Principles, Attacking Defenses and Defenders, Answers to Pressure, and much more!

10. A.C.T.S. Reading System

View Part 10 on CoachTube

At the core of the READ AND SHOOT attack is the reading system, known as A.C.T.S (Advantage-Concept-Third Fix-Scramble).  This reading system unlocks the potential of any imaginable pass pattern, and gives developing players the ability to execute an amount of offense on par with college and professional football.  Despite varied personnel, offensive structures, or philosophies, ACTS  creates a standard, well-defined process for the passer to attack pass defenses.

In this course, Coach Gonzalez gives almost two and a half hours of detailed instruction, from general coaching points to specific details on not only how the pure progression system works, but how the Advantage Principles further propel the offense’s assault on the defense as well.  Each progression and advantage principle segment features whiteboard and video review.

22. Youth/ Middle School Install 2023 Installs 1 & 2

View Part 22 on CoachTube

Coach Gonzalez shares the 2023 Installation Videos he created for a 6th grade consulting client.  This client wanted to learn the spread passing game, while maintaining flexibility in player positions, yet being constrained by the limitations of physical development.  Practice time and exposure to verbiage was limited, so a streamlined install was used that had:

  • No vertical reads (due to age/physical limitations of players)
  • Wrist cards and tags were the means of communication
  • A limited number of 1-word play calls were also utilized

The installs cover not only teaching points in the run and pass games, but include some updated teaching video and concepts.  The pieces, though basic, combine to form a robust, multi-dimensional offense that allowed for growth as the season progresses.  For example, the basics of the zone read and RPOs are there, should expansion go in that direction.

The entire series, covering 6 Installation Practices, contains 40 video segments and over 7 hours of teaching video.

Concept Passing: Teaching the Modern Passing Game

To effectively overcome the problems presented by modern defenses, a complete passing game must possess both diversity and “learnability.” Concept Passing: Teaching the Modern Passing Game combines these two characteristics results in a highly sensitive balancing act for offensive coaches. A complete passing game must be able to attack a given defensive structure on all levels yet be learnable enough to yield a high degree of efficiency. The following system of passing presented in this book totals nine concepts that adapt to numerous protections, quarterback drops and actions, and personnel groupings. Furthermore, the concepts have been applied in varied presentations to the defense (huddle or no huddle) and at small college, junior college, and high school levels.

Chapters include:
Defining Concept-Based Passing
Formations and Personnel Groupings
Passing Game Terminology
Protection Schemes
The Drag Concept
The Vertical Concept
The Two-Man Game Concept
The Quick Concept
The Corner Concept
The Horizontal Concept
The Numbers Concept
The Three-Level Concept
The Object Concept
Application of Pass Concepts

Recoded and Reloaded: An Updated Structure for the Passing Game at Any Level

After accumulating two decades worth of working knowledge in some of football’s

most accomplished passing systems, Coach Gonzalez delivers an apparatus that

concentrates that knowledge.   Teaching and coaching pass offense has

never been made more simple, direct, or multiple, as Gonzalez has created a

language that can be installed at any level, and streamlines even the most

advanced pass concepts.  A former Division 1 player and collegiate

offensive coordinator, Dan Gonzalez once again blends his working knowledge of

the West Coast, Run and Shoot, and Spread No-Huddle offenses, and distills the

teaching of virtually any passing game into just three “Advantage Principles”

and three “Read Concepts.” Furthermore, the simplicity of the system is such

that it can be taught to players of any age, giving an excellent springboard to

beginning players or coaches.  Moreover, the principal secrets of some of

most prolific passing games in history are unlocked for advanced coaches.

With over 200 *FULL COLOR* diagrams and a guide to installation, this is must

read for coaches, players, and even fans who want to further their understanding

of the passing game.

Read and Shoot: Coaching a Multiple Read Passing Game in the Spread Offense

Taking advantage of the vast informational resources available to him, Dan Gonzalez developed a passing system that combined ideas from some of the most vaunted offenses in pro and college football. He later enhanced that system so that youth players could learn and execute the same concepts and techniques. Further, the same concepts have been used to aid high schools in not only developing school record holders, but perennial playoff contenders and state champions as well. Gonzalez now delves into the theory and teaching that goes beyond the playbook and into the coaching behind the “X’s and O’s.”
